Regular Script

Created in Aug.2009

Regular Script was originally one of the most influential traditional Chinese script style. It came into being in the Eastern Han dynasty and was well developed by its master 钟繇 ( Zhong Yao).

For this typographic work, keeping the same name, I fit Regular Script’s particular strokes, which are the basic units for a Chinese character, into English letters and created this hybrid. Apparently, the process was great fun.

Update (Oct.12th 2014): I was informed by 拙时 via Sina Weibo that the same idea was implemented in Xu Bing‘s Square Calligraphy Classroom (1994).

    我一直想设计和汉字兼容的英文字体,仅仅是想想,貌似你只是用书法的风格来写英文字母,你应该更进一步,让它们和汉字能愉快相处。
